Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Assistant Donegal within UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science.

There is increasing demands for oats due to their proven health benefits. Oats were once widely cultivated across Ireland, including the western seaboard, but this declined over the last century. The increasing demand for oats globally, coupled with their agronomic adaptability to low nutrient input cultivation, means that there is potential to increase cultivation in regions such as Donegal. Working with collaborators from UCD, Teagasc, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, we will test the performance of a diversity panel of oat cultivars under Donegal growing conditions, both in the field (in the border region) and in glasshouses, either in Falcarragh, Co. Donegal (in collaboration with LAN CTR) or in UCD Dublin. The successful candidate will preferably be based in Donegal with regular visits for training and meetings to UCD Dublin (travel costs will be covered).
