LAN CTR (Cill Ulta) promotes local Irish solutions to the challenges of Climate Change; Ecological Degradation; Agricultural Import Dependency; and the Cultural, Linguistic, and Population decline of the Gaeltacht.  We work to build resilience in our community through innovations in: sustainable energy solutions and ecological awareness, regenerative agriculture and Irish food sovereignty, farm enterprise diversification and the development of a robust circular economy.

Curaíocht an Phobail

This project is a European Innovation Partnership overseen by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine and funded by the European Union which aims to promote a robust, resilient, economically viable agriculture industry in NW Donegal, championing sustainable practices which comply with emerging climate change and biodiversity legislation.  We hope to create a lasting change in the community psyche, cultivating confidence in the understanding/practice of sustainable agriculture, its ecological and financial benefits, and enabling a regional conversion to sustainable, robust, low-carbon systems.

Curaíocht an Phobail is seeking hire 4-6 local farmers on a limited, part-time basis for one year.  Participants will train under a qualified Agri-Ecologist in areas such as:  sustainable plant/machinery use, reduced input growing techniques, biological pesticides and fertilizers, wildlife habitat conservation, biodiversity monitoring, farming for water quality, etc.  This will include hands-on training via works completed in Cúlra Créafóige fields.  Participants will be responsible for the quality of their work in these fields.

It is envisaged that this paid training opportunity will build upon participants’ current experience and prepare them to take on ecological-agriculture activities in the future either on their own farms or as contractors.
